Original painting of the iconic #24 Gulf Porsche 917K, on its way to winning the 1970 Spa 1000km race. This piece visualises the stunning Porsche entering la Source hairpin, as the light fades over the classic Spa circuit.
The 1970 Spa 1000km was a round of the World Sportscar Championship, held on May 17th, at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. The race took place on the original high-speed 14.1 km circuit.
The event was dominated by Porsche, with the factory-backed Porsche 917K of Jo Siffert and Brian Redman taking victory. Their car, entered by John Wyer Automotive Engineering, outpaced strong competition from Ferrari 512S challengers. The race was notable for its high speeds, as the 917s and 512s regularly exceeded 217mph on the Masta Straight.
This edition of the Spa 1000 km reinforced Porsche’s dominance in the 1970 World Sportscar Championship season and was a key preparation race for the 24 Hours of Le Mans later that year.
